Voter Registration Drive

By One Nation, Under God

The organization, One Nation, Under God, is working to put together a non-partisan voter registration drive for church voter registration before the February 2, 2010 primary. Rev. Vanden Bosch serves as the President of the organization.

Most of the churches on our mailing list will likely be receiving a packet of information about voter registration. It is vital for Christians to register to vote. Did you know that in 2006, only 37% of the eligible citizens of Illinois actually voted in the Governor’s race? Could we have done better if all would have been educated and involved? I would like to think so.

Church Voter Registration Drive

Dear Pastor;

I would like to ask for your help. I am also the President of One Nation, Under God, which is a 501 (c)(3) organization which focuses on helping Christians get involved in government. One of the greatest ways Christians can get involved is to make sure that they qualify to vote for the best candidates when election time comes.

You see, God has given us a country with a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Romans 13 tells us that it is God Who ordains governments--and this is the government He has ordained for the United States of America. Since that is the case, every Christian is a steward of what God has given him--including the right and responsibility to vote.

One Nation, Under God is pushing a voter registration drive in the churches. It is perfectly legal to do voter registration in our churches, but the voter registration must not be partisan, just registering people who are Republicans or Democrats. We have done a mailing to over 4,200 churches in Illinois with information on the voter registration drive. The contact number given is for Illinois Family Institute. If you feel more comfortable contacting me about church voter registration, or have questions, please feel free to call me at (847) 526-7339.

Thank you for your prayers, your interest, your encouragement, and your support in our endeavors. May God bless you in your ministry.

In His Service,

Rev. Bob

Same-Sex Marriage Bill in Illinois Senate

For the very first time in Illinois History, a same-sex marriage bill has been filed in the Illinois Senate. Senator Heather Steans announced that she has filed a same-sex marriage bill in the Senate on October 1, 2009. While the fight on same-sex marriage has been mainly confined to the Illinois House, it now appears to be moving to the Senate as well. Senator Steans has also sponsored a Domestic Partners Death Benefits bill (SB 245) and a bill for homosexuals to change their gender on their birth certificates (SB 1341). Neither of these bills have moved in the Senate. You can go to the redeye website http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/redeye/2009/10/illinois-senate-gets-first-marriage-equality-bill.html for more information.

This highlights the need for us to continue to press forward in our fight for marriage. Illinois Family Institute is sponsoring a rally in support of Traditional Marriage on Thursday, October 29, 2009, in Springfield, Illinois. For more information on the rally go to  http://www.illinoisfamily.org/news/contentview.asp?c=34557

Obama Care Dispelling the Myths

There are accusations and aspersions being made about the President’s healthcare plan, so I thought it would be worthwhile to look at some of the issues involved. For your information, I have looked at the bill and confirmed each of the following things in H.R. 3200:

U.N. Convention on the Rights of a Child

UN Treaty Jeopardizes Homeschool Freedom in Britain

June 16, 2009

Ever since the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and opened to nations across the world for ratification in 1989, HSLDA has been deeply concerned about the implications of this treaty for U.S. homeschoolers, if the U.S. were to ratify the treaty.

We have consistently warned that this treaty could be the vehicle opponents of home education could use to effectively ban or severely regulate homeschooling. On February 16, 1995, when Secretary of State Madeline Albright signed the UNCRC, the United States took a major step along the path to ratification which would make the UNCRC, as stated in Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, the supreme law of the land.

 Civil Unions On Hold

In spite of predictions from Rick Garcia, director of Equality Illinois, that the Civil Unions legislation would pass in the Illinois General Assembly, the legislature adjourned early in the morning on Monday, June 1, without the civil unions legislation passing.

We thank God, above all, for giving us this victory. We would also like to thank all of you who called your state legislators, asking them to vote NO on HB 2234, the original Civil Unions bill, and SB 1716, the recently amended Civil Unions bill.

Legislative Update, June 1, 2009

In With a Bang, Out With a Whimper!

The legislative session that began with a bang (impeachment) has gone out with a whimper--no tax increases, no civil unions, no medical marijuana, no new casinos. The legislature has been in every day since Memorial Day, with several long days (although every day seems long with the other side looks like they're making progress). When I left the Capitol at 1:30 last night, the Senate had adjourned and the House was about to adjourn. There is a budget in place, but it is only 50% of what the Governor requested--what Illinois actually has available to spend.

The Governor is not happy with the budget, and neither are the 31 Senators and the 40 some House members who voted for a huge tax increase--that did not pass. This morning at 10 AM, the Governor begins his meetings with the four legislative leaders to negotiate some kind of increase in funding (tanslation--tax increase) to be able to have a budget that he (and many legislators) believes will be a better budget to meet the needs of the state.

Civil Unions legislation was not called for a vote, which means that the sponsor recognized that he did not have the votes to move it forward. The so-called "Medical" Marijuana bill did not come up for a vote in the House because the votes were not there for it. A vote was taken on the tax increase which the Senate passed Saturday night, but fell short in the House. The Senate passed a massive gambling expansion bill, giving land based casinos to Chicago, Danville, Lake County, and Rockford. It did not come up for a vote in the House.
