Marriage Rally and Day of Prayer

On Wednesday, November 19, 2008, Concerned Christian Americans will be holding a Marriage Rally and Prayer Service by the Lincoln Statute at Second Street and Capitol Drive for a rally to protect marriage. We need your help to make sure that the rally is a success.
In January, 2003, the last remaining days of session were part of a “lame duck” session, a session that takes place after the election. The Monday morning the legislature came into session, there were only 24 votes for the gay rights legislation. After the governor and Senate President spent all afternoon in meetings with senators, there were 30 votes for the same legislation.

This summer, at the conclusion of his march in Chicago’s Gay Pride Parade, the sponsor of HB 1826 announced that he would be calling the Same-Sex Civil Unions Bill for a vote during the fall veto session. This is not something to be taken lightly, for we already have seen an instance of legislators caving into the homosexual lobby in the past. For that reason, we are asking the Christian community to join us in a rally and prayer at the Capitol at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, November 19.

Marriage Rally and Day of Prayer

October 7: The Last Day to Register in Illinois

Tomorrow, October 7, is the last day to register to vote in Illinois for this presidential election. If you are 18 years or older, make sure you register to vote if you have not yet. God has blessed us with a government of the people, by the people, for the people. It is God Who ordains governments, and that is what He has given us.

That means we each have a responsibility to govern in the United States. A pastor once told me, "Jesus was never involved in politics." Jesus did not live in the United States of America, where as a citizen, He would have had a responsibility to participate. We elect men and women to represent us in government. Without Christians speaking out, who will speak out for Christians?

Unless you register to vote, on November 4, you will not be able to help elect someone who represents your values. Here are some tips to help you register.

Website for Registering to Vote

Earlier today, when I sent out the email, I inadvertently forgot to include the website address that made reference to.

If you cannot get out to get registered, following is a website provided by Focus on the Family CitizenLink Website where you can fill out a motor voter registration form, and mail in to get registered to vote. Since you do not get a receipt showing you have registered, I would keep a copy and write the date it was mailed in (It must be postmarked before October 7).

Updated! Are You Registered to Vote?

As we near the November Election, there is a question we must each answer: "Are you registered to vote?"

If you have been recently married, had a name change, will turn 18 before the election, or have never been registered, you need to register to vote. God has ordained governments on the earth, and the government He has ordained for the United States is a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people." We are the government. That means we are the ones God holds accountable for the public policy decisions of our nation and state. We have a stewardship to be active in government.

Here are some helpful thoughts about this election cycle. The date of the election is Tuesday, November 4. Voter registration is closed 27 days prior to the election, which means the last day to register to vote for this election cycle is Tuesday, October 7.

Absentee voting is important for those who are homebound. Information about absentee ballots can be obtained from your local county clerk's office. If you can get out to vote, a much easier and convenient way to vote is by early voting. Early voting in Illinois is open from October 13 to October 30. You do not need any kind of excuse to vote early, although you will need to find an Early Voting Center. Your library reference center or county clerk's office are great places to get that kind of information.

Following is a list of places which can help you in registering to vote:

Dysfunctional Government Continues

On Tuesday, August 12, the Illinois General Assembly was called back into special session at 3 PM to deal with education funding, by Governor Rod Blagojavich. The Governor had no proposals on the table for the legislators to consider regarding education funding. Furthermore, the Governor, who said he called the special session at the request of the Black Caucus, said he was disappointed that they did not offer him any suggestions.

Forwarded Regarding McDonalds and Same-Sex Marriage (SSM)

The information below comes from American Family Association. I appreciate their position on this issue, and believe action is necessary regarding McDonalds and their support of same-sex marriage. When a McDonald's spokesman has accused those opposed to same-sex marriage "are motivated by hate", it is high time to stop any financial support of McDonalds!!! A gracious stand by Christians on behalf of biblical morality is necessary. (I know your children and grandchildren enjoy going to McDonalds and playing in their playland, but we need to do this on THEIR behalf as well.)

Please respond to AFA, email your friends, and pass the flyer along to your local McDonalds. Thank you for your willingness to act.

In His Service,

Rev. Bob
